Busway Tap-off Box Monitoring

This note describes technical aspects of busway tap-off box monitoring.

Solution overview

Busway tap-off box monitoring using Packet Power’s wireless energy monitoring modules is a simple way of augmenting any busway system with modern power monitoring capabilities. It has been deployed worldwide in thousands of units, with multiple systems including Starline, E+I / Vertiv, Siemens, VASS, Anord Mardix and many others. It is fully compatible with Packet Power’s larger energy and environmental monitoring suite.

Benefits

Integrated tap-box monitoring allows monitoring to be added to existing tap-off boxes. The resulting combination provides the ultimate power distribution infrastructure that combines the flexibility of power distribution provided by the busway and the simplicity and flexibility of Packet Power’s wireless monitoring.

Technical overview

Packet Power wireless monitoring modules can be integrated into most busway system tap-off boxes. Modules supporting arbitrary circuit combinations are available. The monitoring modules offer the highest circuit density available and can thus be integrated inside most tap-off boxes. In cases where internal integration is impossible or otherwise not desired, an external “side car” option (see #4 in Figure 1) is also available.

Packet Power wireless monitoring modules can be integrated into both overhead and sub-floor busway systems and have been utilized in data center, industrial and commercial environments.
